The Central Office for Residents is in charge of naturalisation and asylum procedures. It is also involved in visa processes by the German diplomatic missions abroad.

Please note:
For immigrants who still reside abroad, the competence lies with the respective German diplomatic mission abroad (embassy, consulate) in their home country.

Visa

Immigrants from abroad have to apply for a visa at their local German diplomatic mission.

The Hamburg Visa Center checks requirements for granting visas in case of intended long-term stays in Hamburg and issues statements to the German missions abroad. Here you can get general information on the visa issuing procedure (but no information on your application’s current status of processing).
